Rock Island, IL.—Phil Hare, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 17^th District, today earned two more major endorsements just five days before Election Day.  The Quad-City Times Editorial Board endorsed Hare citing his "balanced approach" to tough policy issues and his work and success protecting jobs at the Rock Island Arsenal.

"I'm proud to receive the Quad-City Times endorsement," said Hare.  "I'll keep fighting to keep good jobs here in the 17^th District and I'll keep working with the entire community to keep this district moving in the right direction."

Actor/Activist Michael J. Fox endorsed Hare because of his strong support for stem cell research.  "America is about hope, about promise, about always moving forward , and we deserve leaders who are willing to deliver that hope to their constituents," Fox stated in a release.  "I enthusiastically support and endorse Phil Hare for Congress," Fox continued.  "By supporting stem cell research, Phil Hare puts America on a path that speaks to who we are as a nation."

As a close friend and District Director to retiring Congressman Lave Evans, and as someone with other friends battling challenging health conditions, Hare has witnessed firsthand the need for America to invest in stem cell research. 

"I'm honored to receive Michael J. Fox's endorsement," said Hare.  "I've witnessed the effects of Parkinson's disease, I've watched the children of my close friends endure diabetes, and I've been touched by the strength and courage they and so many others demonstrate in battling those and other serious health conditions.  No one can say with certainty where or when the next major medical breakthrough will occur, but elected officials have a duty to try.  We must invest in the great promise of stem cell research because it may hold the key to a dramatic reduction in human suffering.  If I'm elected, I will always be on the side of hope and opportunity.  I will continue to support stem cell and other promising research in hopes of better, healthier days for our community and the entire world."

The Quad-City Times and Michael J. Fox endorsements come during an exciting week for the Hare campaign.  Earlier this week, Hare received the endorsements of the Rock Island Argus-Dispatch, the Decatur Herald & Review, the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA), and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of America (VFW PAC).
